Volunteering at the Toronto Castleview Long-term Care Centre
*Location: Castleview Wychwood Towers(351 Christie St, Toronto, ON M6G 3C3)
*Main Projects
One of the organization’s major projects is reducing the generation gap between 1st and 3rd immigration generations due to educational and cultural differences. The organization has provided programs which bring mutual understanding for both generations such as; a musical performance for the seniors, volunteering, and performances at a funeral for the residents in the Toronto Castleview Long-Term Care Centre, which is home to a large number of Korean seniors.
Youth members from Toronto Korean Canadian Youth Centre (TKCYC) have regularly volunteered at the Toronto Castleview Long-term Care Centre since 2019. They have played comfortable music for residents. Due to sustained volunteering activities and by encouraging more youth participants, TKCYC provides additional projects.
- Coffee Time: Musical performance at the auditorium in the Toronto Castleview Long-term Care Centre (2nd& 4th Wednesdays a month)
- Friday’s Joy: Piano solo performance for the mobility impairment residents (2pm every Fridays)
- Celebration of Life: Volunteering and performance at the funeral for the residents
- Seminars: Information Seminars for the youth meaning of volunteering for the seniors, cautions and methods
*Outcome
The youth who participate the project cultivate their respect for seniors and promote understanding between generations. Through the volunteering they can take pride as a member of society.
The senior residents have an opportunity to enjoy cultural benefit and keep their mental security by listening to a wide range of music.
